Drivers who are cited by law enforcement officers for child passenger safety violations will be given the one time opportunity to participate in the Diversion Program, led by Safe Kids Wayne County at the Partnership for Children. This two part program includes a class to learn the importance of child passenger safety and a return appointment to ensure their child(ren)’s restraint is properly installed. After successful completion of the program, participants will be issued documentation to bring to the court as proof of completion. The initiative is possible due to a collaboration between Safe Kids Wayne County, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s office in an effort to decrease motor vehicle injuries to children who are improperly restrained.

Typically, the class is the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:30 – 10:30 am (dates and times subject to change). Participants MUST call to register and pay for the class no later than the Monday prior to each class. The fee for the class is $25. The installation is free, and includes installation for the ticketed child(ren) as well as any other in the vehicle. Participants must bring the following to class: ticket, photo ID, and the child passenger safety restraint must be available in the vehicle. A follow up installation appointment will be made either the same day or at a later date (depending on appointment time availability.) Participants must bring: photo ID, child, appropriate child passenger safety seat, and vehicle to the installation appointment.

Participants MUST attend the class AND the installation appointment in order to successfully complete the program.
